Hi! I’m Mary Eliza Hendricks. I am spunky and sweet, a resourceful, enthusiastic, and dedicated artist! I recently graduated with a BA in theatre from Emory and Henry College, in Emory, VA. I am a long time performer, and I also have a passion for Dramaturgy, Directing and Choreography. I like to joke I am a Jack of All Trades, master of none, but as the rest of that phrase goes, better than a master of one. I consider my self well-rounded in my skills, and will put my all into a project I care about.
One of the reasons directing, dramaturgy, and choreography appeal are of great interest to me is that I see a real potential to make positive changes in communities and for individuals, as well as the theatre industry as a whole, through the leadership and craftsmanship involved in these roles. Topics such as inclusive casting, diverse stories, accessible ingenuity, and kindness are extremely important to me.
A little about me as a human- If I were an animal, I would be a squirrel. My pronouns are she/her. My favorite animals are elephants. I grew up near Chattanooga, TN (Consequently, growing up, I have performed "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" more times than you would ever care to know). My favorite subject in school was always history (the dramaturgy makes sense now, right?), and my worst was speling. I'm a huge golden age musical nerd, as well as a comedic actress. I've always wanted bright red hair like my idols, Lucille Ball, Gwen Verdon, and Kathrine Hepburn. I am also a visual artist, and I love to engage in a variety of hobbies such as poetry, crafts, collecting pretty sticks and acorns, and cooking.
